A major company in the food sector, which falls into the confectionery macrocategory, has valorised its ice cream production scraps in the production of energy. The company, specialised in the production of 100% vegetable ice cream, wanted to integrate the principles of the circular economy into its business model.
The company’s aim was to check the possibility of valorising its organic waste by evaluating the market and sales opportunities, instead of continuing to manage it as waste with high management costs.
What were the results obtained?
- Thanks to the activities of Sfridoo’s technicians, the company was able to use its organic waste for energy recovery.
- The company was able to classify its ice cream production scraps as a by-product, thus eliminating its organic waste production on the annual accounts.
- With the support of Sfridoo’s team of experts, the company optimised its production process. It has also lowered all disposal, administrative and waste management costs.
- The difference between the operation’s costs and revenues allowed the company to generate an economic benefit of 111%, making its business even more profitable and reducing its economic and environmental impact.
